A "portable" power station for home backup is really a big battery on wheels with an inverter, outlets and solar inputs. The right one depends on what you need to keep running, especially whether you have 240V loads like a well pump, and how long your outages last.
How we chose. These picks are based on manufacturers' published specifications checked on October 17, 2026, plus the sizing math in our how-to guides. WattFortress has not lab-tested these units, and we do not publish test results we have not run. The site's owner bought an EcoFlow DELTA Pro Ultra X with 4 batteries and is setting it up now; we'll add real measurements once it's running. We note that where it is relevant, but it is not a review. Prices change often, so we leave them as placeholders.
Start here: size your needs first
Before you compare models, run your loads through the guide that matches your situation:
- How many solar panels in series for your power station (cold-weather Voc tables per model)
- How to size solar panels for a power station (series vs parallel)
- Can a power station run a gas furnace blower?
- Sump pump runtime on a power station
- CPAP runtime on a power station
- Refrigerator runtime during an outage
- Power station for a 240V well pump

1. EcoFlow DELTA Pro 3
Who it's for: households that want one rolling unit with both 120V and 240V output, a fast UPS switchover, and room to grow to 12 kWh with extra batteries.
Per EcoFlow's spec page, the DELTA Pro 3 has 4,096Wh of LFP capacity, 4,000W continuous output (6,000W with X-Boost), 8,000W surge, and a 10ms UPS. It has four 120V 20A outlets, a TT-30, an L14-30 and a 6-20 for 240V. Note that the 120V and 240V outlet groups are switched separately and cannot both be on at once, per EcoFlow's FAQ. Solar comes in through two inputs: High-PV (30-150V, 15A, 1,600W) and Low-PV (11-60V, 20A, 1,000W). The 150V High-PV ceiling limits strings to three panels with a Voc near 39V (like the 450W panel in guide 1), even in very cold weather.
Considerations: the 240V outlets are rated 16.7A (4,000W), so check a well pump's startup against the 8,000W surge (guide 7). The main unit is IP20, meaning indoor or sheltered use only, per EcoFlow.

2. Jackery Explorer 5000 Plus
Who it's for: homes with big 240V loads or high-voltage solar arrays, where the highest surge rating in this group matters.
Jackery lists 5,040Wh of LiFePO4 capacity, 7,200W continuous and 14,400W surge, with L14-30 and 14-50 outlets for 120V/240V. Its High-PV input accepts 135-450V at up to 15A (4,000W), and two Low-PV ports accept 16-60V. Expansion reaches 30 kWh per unit with five battery packs, or 60 kWh with two units linked through Jackery's Smart Transfer Switch. Jackery lists both a backup UPS mode (under 20ms) and an online UPS mode (0ms).
Considerations: its spec sheet lists 50W standby consumption, which matters for small loads like a CPAP (guide 5). The High-PV input has a 135V floor, so you need enough panels in series to stay above it (guide 1). Jackery's product page says it does not recommend its power stations for medical or life-support devices. Jackery's FAQ also notes that when connected to the Smart Transfer Switch, the unit's 120V AC input cannot be used for charging.

3. Anker SOLIX F3800 Plus (and F3800)
Who it's for: people who want 6,000W of 120V/240V output in one unit and a wider solar input than the original F3800.
The F3800 Plus has 3,840Wh of LFP capacity, 6,000W continuous AC, and two solar inputs at 11-165V, 17A, up to 1,600W each (3,200W total), per Anker. It expands with up to six 3.84 kWh expansion batteries to 53.8 kWh in a two-unit system. Anker also lists 240V generator input through its Home Power Panel port.
The original F3800 has the same capacity and 6,000W output with a 9,000W surge, but its solar inputs are 11-60V XT-60 ports (1,200W each, 2,400W total). A 60V ceiling means only one typical house panel per port in series; most setups use parallel wiring (guide 2). Anker notes the F3800's 240V output cannot be used while it charges from 120V AC.
Considerations: Anker's F3800 Plus spec page doesn't list a surge rating (the base F3800 lists 9,000W), so ask Anker before planning around motor starts.

4. BLUETTI AC500 + B300S
Who it's for: 120V-only homes that want a modular system where the inverter and batteries are separate, lighter pieces.
The AC500 is an inverter module that needs at least one B300S battery (3,072Wh each, up to six for 18,432Wh). BLUETTI lists 5,000W continuous (4,500W with a single B300S) and 10,000W surge, with a 20ms UPS. Solar input is two ports at 12-150V, up to 1,500W each (3,000W total); BLUETTI says panels above 150V need its D300S step-down module. The AC500 itself weighs 66.2 lb.
Considerations: a single AC500 outputs 120V only. BLUETTI says two AC500 units are needed for 240V split phase. BLUETTI lists 30W consumption with AC and DC on, a 4-year warranty, and the AC500 is not waterproof.
5. EcoFlow DELTA Pro Ultra X (high-end, modular)
Who it's for: homeowners who want near whole-home capacity and very high solar input, and are willing to install a smart panel or gateway with an electrician.
This is the system the site's owner bought (4 batteries) and is setting up now. It is "portable" only in the sense that the inverter and batteries are separate modules you can move. Per EcoFlow, it delivers 12kW continuous at 120/240V (36kW with three units), starts at 12,288Wh with two 6,144Wh LFP batteries, and scales to 10 batteries per inverter. Solar input is two 80-500V, 15A inputs at up to 5,000W each, 10kW total, through EcoFlow's PV Switch Box. Outlets include two NEMA 5-20, an L14-30 and a 14-50. EcoFlow lists IP54, a 5-year warranty, and UPS under 10ms standalone or under 20ms with Smart Home Panel 3.
Considerations: this is a large investment and its home integration requires professional installation. EcoFlow's DELTA Pro Ultra X spec table does not list a surge rating. Its product-page marketing copy says the Adaptive Start feature handles "surges up to 45kW", but that is not a published inverter surge spec, so check with EcoFlow before relying on it for motor starts.

How to choose
- Do you have 240V loads? If yes, skip single-unit AC500 setups and compare surge against your well pump or AC (guide 7).
- How many days? Size capacity from your daily outage kWh (guides 3-6).
- Will you charge from solar? Match your panels to the input voltage window (guides 1-2).
- Will it connect to your house wiring? If yes, budget for a transfer switch or smart panel installed by a licensed electrician, with permits.
- Where will it live? Check operating temperature ranges and weather ratings. Keep units out of flood-prone basements.
FAQ
Can any of these run my whole house? For an average home's full load, generally no single base unit can. Expanded systems, especially the DELTA Pro Ultra X, can cover much more. See How many kWh for whole-home backup.
Do I need an electrician? Not for plugging appliances into the unit with extension cords. Yes for anything that connects to your home's circuits, such as transfer switches, inlets, smart panels or hardwired loads like furnaces and well pumps.
Which has the best solar input? On paper, the DELTA Pro Ultra X (10kW) by a wide margin, then the Jackery 5000 Plus (4,000W High-PV plus Low-PV). Voltage windows matter as much as watts.
